Published to coincide with the opening of the NCMA’s new West Building, this expanded, revised edition of the Museum’s Handbook of the Collections features full-page color illustrations and curatorial commentary on 275 of the finest works in the NCMA’s collection. These include masterpieces from ancient Egypt, classical works from Greece and Rome, and ancient American and African art. The Museum is known for its collection of European and American art as well as its Jewish ceremonial art; these areas have been enhanced through recent gifts. Growing collections of contemporary painting, sculpture, video, and photography are also documented. This handbook includes more than 100 new works, many of them previously unpublished.
The revised Handbook of the Collections is made possible by a generous gift from Joan C. Huntley and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
